About the Author

Mary Beardwood's first encounter with the Arab world was in 1978, when she began teaching at the English Speaking School in Oman. She then spent 5 years teaching at the newly opened Sultan's School in Muscat. Since then Mary has lived in Qatar and the UAE, teaching in Arab, British and International schools for over 23 years. Drawing on her long experience in teaching and her love of children, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Arabia is the result of her resolve to provide a book especially for them.
